Inspect the existing felt for any signs of deterioration; replacing it now is easier than after the new fascia boards are in place.
Ensure that all timber is free from rot and structurally sound to secure the new fascias properly. Replace any decayed rafters. Verify that the existing rafters are plumb and level to ensure the new boards align with the roofline accurately.

Start by taking off the first row of roof tiles and cutting back the existing felt to expose the underlying timber. Use a crowbar to carefully detach the old fascia and soffit boards, ensuring to cut away any silicone sealant connecting the soffit to the structure.
With the old soffit and fascia removed and the roofing timber inspected for any damage or rot, proceed with fitting the new soffit boards. Measure the length and width of each board to ensure a proper fit.
You can install the soffit boards using one of the following methods:
Method 1: Secure the soffit to the timber using plastic-capped nails, a hammer and stainless steel or pins, depending on the thickness of your soffit.
Method 2: Place the soffit into a UPVC channel attached to the wall with adhesive or screws.
Pro Tip: Leave a gap between each board for a soffit join trim, and fill any spaces between the soffit and rafter with timber packers to prevent movement.
Position the fascia board so it sits level and covers the front of the soffit board. Nail it to the side of the rafters using stainless steel nails, spacing them evenly with two nails per section to avoid shifting.
Ensure the fascia is securely attached, as it will bear the weight of roof rain, tiles, and guttering. Check that the fascia does not obstruct any windows; if it does, you may need to adjust the board’s position or trim the rafters carefully.
Next, install an eaves vent strip at the top of the fascia board, securing it with nails. This helps prevent condensation and dampness in your roof.
Replace the felt you cut away in step one. You can use traditional felt, which is lightweight and easy to work with. These trays tuck beneath the old felt and overlap with the guttering to prevent leaks.
Finally, replace the roof tiles, clean off any excess silicone sealant, and ensure all components are properly sealed for a tidy finish. Your installation is now complete!
